Extinction Rebellion Festival: 4 Days of Art, Music, and Teach-Ins for Earth (Crisis) Day
For the four days leading up to Earth (Crisis) Day, we’ll gather in Washington Square Park each day from 3- 8 PM to celebrate the earth and explore solutions to the climate crisis through art, music, and teach-ins.
Come be in community with fellow rebels and our allies to learn, dance, and create together as we imagine the future we want. Schedule for Day 1 includes:
3 - 4 PM: De-escalation training - learn the basics of how to support upcoming civil disobedience actions and marches through de-escalation tactics
3:30 - 5 PM: Nonviolent Direct Action (NVDA) Training - learn from experienced trainers how to participate safely and effectively in civil disobedience activities
4 - 7 PM: Mending Circle by Fashion Affinity Group. Bring a piece of your clothing that needs mending and join us in a circle of care, repair, and conversation around clothing and fashion as we explore how the simple act of mending, and the time and care that entails, may lead us on paths to repair our torn and ragged world. We will have fabric scraps, needles and thread. Feel free to bring what you have.
4 - 5 PM: Heading for Extinction Talk. This talk will lay out the latest climate science that drives our urgency to act and outline how we can use nonviolent direct action to demand change.
6:30 - 8 PM: Nonviolent Direct Action (NVDA) Training - learn from experienced trainers how to participate safely and effectively in civil disobedience activities.
7 - 8 PM: Screening and discussion of Disobedience, a film about the latest phase of the global fossil fuel resistance efforts
Plus art activities, discussions with our Just Transition group, food, and more!
We’ll be in Washington Square Park from 3 - 8 PM each day. Rain location: Barrow’s Pub (463 Hudson St). When you arrive, come by Home Base for the schedule and event locations as locations may shift:
