Defund Line 3 March

  • New York Public Library 476 5th Avenue New York, NY, 10018 United States (map)

EVENT MOVED TO FRIDAY 4/2.

Join us in a nonviolent direct action where as people united we will make our voices heard to fossil fuel financiers. Stopping Line 3 is a matter of justice.

Enbridge, a Canadian energy transportation company is currently building Line 3 a new highly toxic tar sands pipeline in Northern Minnesota. If completed, Line 3 would endanger more than 800 wetlands and 200 waterways, and destroy the sacred wild rice beds that the Anishinaabe people depend on for their food, culture and way of life. Line 3 would contribute as much damage to our climate as 38 million vehicles on our roads.

In the last three months, more than one hundred Water Protectors have been arrested for taking direct action to stop the pipeline construction: chaining themselves to pieces of pipe, sitting in trees in the path of construction, locking themselves by their necks to excavators and placing pianos in the way of construction. This resistance will only grow more fervent.

Right here in New York City, banks like Chase, Citi, Bank of America and TD Bank provide financing to Enbridge and the Line 3 project. These banks appear to be doing their best to score an F-minus on corporate social and environmental responsibility.

Let's show our solidarity with the frontline Water Protectors by pressuring these banks to respect Indigenous rights, protect our climate and walk away from Enbridge, or otherwise face the reputational risk that will inevitably occur if they fail to do so.

As always, masks and social distancing will be required for all in-person events. Please review our Health and Safety Guidelines before attending. https://www.xrebellion.nyc/health-and-safety-guidelines
