Stop Greenwashing Ecocide #StopLine3

  • Grand Central Terminal 89 East 42nd Street New York, NY, 10017 United States (map)

Water protectors in so called northern Minnesota continue to be assaulted and jailed for standing up for the water, the land, and all of our futures against the fossil fuel corporation Enbridge that is trying to build a dirty tar sand pipeline, Line 3. There have been over 500 arrests since November 2020 and police continue to escalate violence against water protectors, using rubber bullets and tear gas.

Despite national resistance to the pipeline, in June 2021 Wall Street banks decided to issue $1.5 billion in new “sustainability” bonds to Enbridge. These bonds are a weak guise that excuse banks from actually looking at the human rights and environmental abuses they fund. It is greenwashing at its worst. JP Morgan Chase is one of the worst offenders of greenwashing.

In late 2020, JP Morgan Chase kicked off a $2.5 trillion "sustainability" campaign filled with misleading promises and commitments. Chase has no intention of seriously reducing new fossil fuel supply by 2030, and is setting a bar so low that other financial institutions won't feel the need to act. They are funding climate chaos, they are funding ecocide. We cannot allow this greenwashing to advance. We will gather at Grand Central then head to the JP Morgan Chase headquarters with a message: WE ARE WATCHING YOU and you must DEFUND LINE 3.
