Intended for experienced working group members as well as new rebels, this training offers the most comprehensive view yet offered in NYC of Extinction Rebellion’s structure, decision-making practices and facilitation toolkit. It will be interactive and full of chances to try stuff!

10:00am -12:30pm: Self Organizing Systems with Jesse Marshall and Brotherman (Full outline here)
A) The philosophy of distributed power and equal voice behind XR’s working group structure
B) Working group mandates and links
C) The integrative decision-making process and the idea of an objection
D) Circle roles like coordinator and facilitator, role terms, and how to select for roles.
12:30pm - 1:30pm: Lunch break - One Hour! On your own or potluck!
1:30pm - 3:00pm: Fun with Facilitation! With Jimena Veloz:
A) Present short version of principles
B) Interactive spectrum exercise
C) Learn “meeting hygiene” you can use today, like timesharing, timekeeping, progressive stack
D) Intro to Facilitation: how to 'actively mitigate for power' in meetings, meeting agreements, alternate ways of structuring speaking and sharing
3:15pm - 3:30pm: break
3:30pm - 5:00pm: The Deliberate Rebellion: Local Democracy
A) Relational culture at the heart of democracy
B) The demand for representation (liz); New York Speaks story (Bob)
C) Talking about TALKING TO STRANGERS in breakout groups, followed by sharing back.
D) Locate this relational work inside the phases of a Citizens Assembly (XR Demand #3) process
E) Ideas for Emergence
