WE DEMAND CLIMATE JUSTICE
Join the rebels of Extinction Rebellion and members of the Global Alliance of Territorial Communities (GATC) as they rally to speak truth to the financial sector, which has failed on its pledge from COP 26 to invest $1.7 billion in protecting territorial and local communities. Elders from these communities have always been Protectors of the Earth, but have seen their land, water, and air polluted in favor of fossil fuel interests and the greed of the Global North. We cannot continue to sit idly by. We must take to the streets in solidarity with the most vulnerable among us, and speak out against climate inequality and the continued exploitation of our only home.
New York City has labeled September 19th through 25th as “Climate Week”, a week where individuals and corporations from all over the world will gather in the city to discuss climate change. We’ve seen them do this again and again, promising us a stable future while delivering no real results for the most vulnerable among us, namely the Black, Indigenous and PoC communities in New York City and around the world. It is these frontline communities who have already been severely harmed by climate change for decades, and are continuing to suffer the most while many in the world continue with business-as-usual.
Meet us at 7:45 am on Monday morning, September 19th at the Museum of the American Indian in downtown Manhattan for a rally with the Global Alliance of Territorial Communities. Come and hear the words of territorial and local leaders themselves discuss what they desperately need to protect their homes. Climate justice cannot wait.
