Culture Declares Emergency Assembly

  • Performance Space NY 150 1st Avenue New York, NY, 10009 United States (map)

Call for artists, cultural producers and art workers for a gathering/assembly/discussion in connection with CULTURE DECLARES EMERGENCY (CDE)

About this Event

We face the combined catastrophes of climate crises, mass extinction of vital biodiversity, the degradation of ecosystem health and extensive injustices.

As cultural institutions, workers, presenters and producers, is it possible to shift from a production paradigm of growth, competition and extraction to one of regeneration, reciprocity and circularity? What does it mean to contribute to culture in this moment, and beyond? How is artmaking positioned as a reflection of dominant culture based on inequity, imbalance, disaster and exploitation towards extinction, and how can participation manifest under these circumstances? What effect does the globalized arts economy have on our communities, and how, when and by what means is action and resistance possible, valid or effective?

This gathering is a mobilization to create open discussions and plans of action, while we acknowledge that we are beholden, complicit, dependent and/or implicated in these systems.
