Warm Up

  • Washington Square Park (map)

Indigenous leaders in Minnesota have put out a call asking the public to support their fight against the Line 3 expansion of pipelines carrying highly toxic tar sands oil through Native lands and essential waterways, and contributing to the climate crisis. Come spend the evening with us and learn of ways you can support the frontlines from the big city.

5:00pm - Community gathering

Join us as we gather in community, have fun, make art, share food, and inspire each other to stand up against the pollution and the desecration of Mother Earth. There will be a short talk on the Line 3 resistance and upcoming actions in the city. Bring instruments, drums, and your voices for music making and jam session!

7:30pm - Film screening - Necessity: Oil, Water, and Climate Resistance (by filmmakers Jan Haaken and Sam Praus)

Watch this feature-length documentary by filmmakers Jan Haaken and Sam Praus which follows Indigenous leaders and white allies, using direct action to protect the sacred and demand justice. Legal experts discuss the record of disparate treatment in the justice system and the legal strategy of the necessity defense, which makes a moral case for acts of civil disobedience, while medical and scientific experts address the health effects of fossil fuels and dangers of pipeline and refinery infrastructure.

As always, masks and social distancing will be required for all in-person events. Please review our Health and Safety Guidelines before attending. https://www.xrebellion.nyc/health-and-safety-guidelines
