This Is Not A Drill: CLIMATE ACTION TRAINING

  • Chapel of First Unitarian Church 121 Pierrepont Street Brooklyn, NY, 11201 United States (map)

The summer of smoke-filled skies, scorching heat waves, devastating wildfires, and catastrophic floods is shifting public sentiment about the urgency of the climate and ecological crisis. President Biden, however, continues to follow the path of business as usual with the fossil fuel industry. We need to send him a message before the 2024 elections.

A massive March to End Fossil Fuels is planned for September 17 in New York City. We are making an all-out mobilization effort to make sure that this march will be a great show of numbers from all segments of society. However, a permitted, regulated march by itself is not enough, so we are planning waves of non-violent civil disobedience during September 13-19 and beyond to tell Biden that we mean business.

During the half-day training on Saturday, September 9, we will talk about what makes civil disobedience a powerful tool to bring about societal change and how Extinction Rebellion uses it to realize our demands. We will educate you about your rights as you break the law and its possible consequences. You will learn how to interact with members of the public, the police, and the media to best achieve the action's goals and make it a positive experience for all. Best of all, you’ll get plugged into the secret actions we have planned for the following week. Even if you ultimately choose not to risk arrest, you will learn about other roles in which you can contribute to a successful action.

Capacity is limited, so please REGISTER soon.
