AS THE WORLD LOOKS UP, WE RISE UP!
Join us by showing up in NYC
between April 13 - 23.
Mass extinction. Food shortages. Water shortages. Extreme weather events. Disease. Forced migration. War & conflict. Societal collapse. An IPCC diagnosis of “code red for humanity.” The climate and ecological crisis is nearing its breaking point and our government is still not acting.
We’re mobilizing for a massive, sustained nonviolent civil disobedience campaign.
Research shows that if we mobilize 3.5% of the population, we cannot fail.

We deserve a livable future.
We have a brief window of time to act in order to prevent irreversible change that at best would make our future rife with suffering and death, and at worst, could set off a course of events eventually leading to human extinction (an unlikely, but possible, worst-case scenario.)
We are in an emergency and if we can wake up to that truth, we can change it.
The climate and ecological crisis is here, and yet governments have failed to pass adequate legislation to halt the disaster. We’re running out of time. We have already experienced an increase in extreme weather events like flooding and wildfires in addition to food insecurity, species and biodiversity loss, and an increased risk of future pandemics. And things are on track to get a whole lot worse. Conventional campaigning like petitioning, lobbying, voting and small-scale protests have not worked due to the rooted interests of political and economic forces — governments will not act without massive, sustained pressure from the people. We have a moral duty to act, to do what's reasonable and necessary to avert the catastrophic impacts. It’s up to us to meet the moment.

The magic of 3.5 percent
History has shown us that nonviolent direct action — civil disobedience — can make “the impossible” suddenly possible. Movements that have mobilized at least 3.5% of the population have never failed to achieve change. We have the numbers; we just need to show up.
The power of nonviolent direct action
Sustained nonviolent direct action cannot be ignored. By getting massive numbers into the streets, we can catapult the growing climate momentum we see in public discourse and public opinion polls into concrete change. Read more about nonviolent direct action.
Understanding and acknowledging inhibitory stress responses
It’s easy—and natural—to feel hopeless. When faced with unpleasant truths—especially those we can’t always concretely see or that feel so large and threatening we don’t think we can defeat them—we tend to go into “freeze” or “denial” mode. But that denial is what prevents us from taking the actions that would help mitigate the threat.
So when things feel overwhelming or unrealistic, we must be gentle with ourselves. We don’t know if we’ll succeed in securing a livable future, but we believe there is a moral imperative to try. If we each focus on what we can control—namely, our own choice to join the effort—things can feel more manageable. And if enough people choose to hit the streets, we believe change is possible.
